County Commissioner: The Job is Bigger- Leadership Must See the Whole Picture
County government touches nearly every part of life in Teller County—from budgets, roads and public safety to small business, regulations, water, public lands, wildfire mitigation and property rights. I commit to continuing to lead and serve in an open and transparent way and will remain accountable to you for life, health and safety of this county and its residents.
I bring a broad range of experience to the table and will be ready to lead on day one. County Commissioner is not a JV sport or a pick-up game. To succeed, preparation begins years in advance. I am a highly visible and engaged resident of Teller County and have been for nearly 3 decades.
I am a business owner and entrepreneur, and have been for 47 years, who understands what it means to make payroll, manage employees, deal with rising costs, navigate regulations and make difficult decisions.
I am committed to fiscal responsibility: As the owner of a construction company, I successfully navigated the challenges of the 2007-2010 mortgage/banking crises and also Covid 19- a time when many contractors did not. I will ensure that Teller County remains debt free and fiscally responsible with your hard-earned tax money.
I believe one of our biggest threats is loss of local control: I will continue to push back on the overreach of state government, as I have been testifying at the state level for many years.
I understand the importance of public lands and outdoor access to recreation, because I have spent a lifetime hunting, fishing, hiking, camping and enjoying the outdoors. I also understand the impacts to our county, to our EMS, Law Enforcement and Search and rescue and will ensure local voices are heard and that recreation is responsible and respectful to our natural environment and our residents.
I believe protecting water, and water rights must remain a priority as Teller County faces drought, wildfire risk, forest health challenges and continued growth. I will continue to foster a positive relationship with our water commissioner and our ranchers and those with water rights as we navigate the impacts of extended drought.
As a former volunteer firefighter, I understand wildfire mitigation and public safety, while recognizing that mitigation must be part of a much broader discussion about healthy forests, water, public lands and responsible land management. I believe collaboration between the county, state, and federal land managers are essential to healthy forests.
I strongly support our veterans, law enforcement officers, firefighters, EMS and first responders who have dedicated themselves to serving others. Many times over the years I have delivered goods and services to first responders during natural disasters such as fires and blizzards.
My commitment to Teller County didn't begin with a campaign.
For years, I have volunteered my time through Kiwanis, Junior Achievement, scouting, community organizations, nonprofit efforts, county boards and local projects that make Teller County stronger. Far too many candidates decide to run for office without the requisite experience, involvement or knowledge of our county and our county government. I have the passion, relationships, commitment and drive to join my fellow commissioners and make a positive impact on day one.
That combination matters.
A County Commissioner may be discussing wildfire mitigation one day, a multimillion-dollar budget the next, followed by roads, land use, public safety, business regulations, water, capital projects or property rights.
The job requires someone who can see the whole picture, from complex policy level federal and state issues to conflict resolution between property owners.
I bring decades of business experience, community service, county involvement and real-world decision-making to the table.
Not one issue. Not one specialty. A well-rounded leader prepared to serve all of Teller County.
